A total of 485 tonnes of local vegetables were sold through the Qatar Farms and Premium Qatari Vegetables programmes in November, the Ministry of Municipality said.
Of this, 376 tonnes were marketed through the Premium Qatari Vegetables programme and 109 tonnes through the Qatar farms initiative.
The products are available in major commercial complexes in Qatar, such as LuLu Hypermarket, Carrefour, Al Meera and others, throughout the year.
The two marketing programmes are supervised by the Ministry of Municipality, represented by the Agricultural Affairs Department, in co-operation with the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
The Ministry of Municipality had launched the two programmes to market Qatari vegetables in consumer complexes and help farmers market their produce. The programmes provide an opportunity for Qatari farmers to display their local production of high-quality vegetables at affordable prices for consumers without any intermediary.
The programmes aim to improve the local marketing methods for Qatari vegetables, increase the demand for locally produced vegetables in the country, reduce production losses to the least possible extent and increase the income of Qatari farmers in a way that encourages increased investment in the agricultural field.
