Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa affirmed that his country desires to maintain the tradition of bilateral engagement with all the regional players and wish for enduring peace in the region.

The Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan General Qamar Javed Bajwa made the remarks during his meeting with Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives Gregory Meeks.

During the meeting, General Bajwa stressed the need for international joint efforts to avoid a humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. He also stressed the importance of co-ordinating efforts for the economic uplift of the Afghan people.

He pointed out that "Peace in Afghanistan means peace in Pakistan."

For his part, the Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives appreciated Pakistan's role in Afghan situation, special efforts for effective border management and its role in regional stability, pledging to play his role for further improvement in diplomatic cooperation with Pakistan at all levels.
