The judging committee of the fifth edition of Qatar Charity (QC)’s ‘Future’s Writers’ programme has finished interviewing students participating in the competition.
The committee has selected the winning works in preparation for announcing the names of the winners, who will be honoured in the virtual closing ceremony, which will be held under the patronage of HE the Minister of Culture and Sports.
Qatar Charity holds ‘Future’s Writers’ annually, which is a short-story writing programme for school and university students, aiming to nurture young talents. The programme focuses on developing stories that combine humanitarian and Qatari cultural perspectives, and seeks to provide writers, with the aim of contributing to the achievement of Qatar National Vision 2030, especially in the cultural field.
The current edition of the programme is being implemented in partnership and co-operation with the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Qatari Forum for Authors, Qatar University (QU) and Lusail Publishing and Distribution, under the auspices of Dukhan Bank.
The judging committee included writers specialised in children's literature, academics, authors and Arabic language professors from QU. The works were evaluated based on different criteria such as the creative idea, elements, events, characters and the writing style of a story, QC said in a statement.
The committee interviewed 106 male and female students from various schools and universities remotely, in addition to students with special needs.
For the first time, students from College of the North Atlantic – Qatar, Community College of Qatar, Hamad Bin Khalifa University and Education City universities took part.
