The five yards for selling local agriculture products, located in Al Mazrouah, Al Wakra, Al Khor-Al Thakhira, Al Sheehaniya and Al Shamal, will remain closed during the Eid al-Fitr holidays and resume work after that on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays every week.

Abdulrahman al-Sulaiti, general supervisrr of these yards at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), told local Arabic daily 'Arrayah' that the working hours of these yards after the Eid holidays will be from 6.30pm until 10.30pm to give customers the opportunity to buy fresh products during the evening.

Work will continue at the yards like this until the end of this agricultural season, the report states. Al-Sulaiti stressed that the Covid-19 precautionary and preventive measures are being strictly enforced at the yards for the protection of all.

He said the yards are offering both consumers and farm owners excellent services and help farm owners reach out to consumers and display their products without any intermediaries. This, in turn, has significantly contributed to a drop in the prices of most fresh products there and the rates are lower than the ones offered at other commercial outlets for the same items.

The official highlighted the success of these yards over the past years and how they have emerged as excellent options for selling local fresh products. The MME has been keen to maintain the quality of products on display at a high level while keeping the retail prices reasonable, in addition to tagging these products with the proper classification according to the approved quality grades, the report adds.
