* Draft law approved on FIFA trademarks, copyright

The Cabinet yesterday stressed that the precautionary measures adopted to combat the Covid-19 pandemic shall continue. HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz al-Thani chaired the Cabinet’s regular meeting held via videoconference.

Following the meeting, HE the Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Dr Issa Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi explained that at the outset the Cabinet listened to the explanation provided by HE the Minister of Public Health on the latest developments regarding the steps taken to curb the spread of Covid-19.

The Cabinet approved a draft law on the protection of trademarks, copyright and neighbouring rights of the International Football Association (FIFA), and decided to refer it to the Shura Council.

Among the provisions contained in the draft law are provisions that stipulate the registration of FIFA trademarks, the deposit of works, audio recordings, performances of performers and FIFA radio programmes with the office, at the request of FIFA or its representative for this purpose. The power of attorney must be notarised.

The Cabinet approved a draft decision of the Minister of Justice renaming the chairperson and members of the Experts Affairs Committee and defining its system of work and remuneration. The Cabinet took the necessary measures to ratify a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Interior and the National Police of Ukraine on co-operation in preventing and combating crime. Also approved was a draft air service agreement with Uzbekistan government.
