The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs has said mosques will open 20 minutes before the second adhan (call to prayer) for the Friday prayer and sermon.
The decision, which was taken based on co-ordination with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), was announced by the ministry through Twitter on Tuesday.
"Within the framework of continuous co-ordination between the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs and the Ministry of Public Health, and following up on the latest developments regarding public health indicators and in accordance with the procedures and measures taken to address the Covid-19 pandemic, it was decided to open the doors of mosques to receive worshippers for the Friday sermon and prayer, 20 minutes before the second call to prayer," the ministry said.
The ministry also said it has decided to increase the number of mosques where Friday prayers are held, especially in crowded areas.
It has urged all worshippers to fully co-operate with those in charge of supervising mosques while adhering to the Covid-19 precautionary measures, the most important of which is keeping the mosque windows open.
The other measures highlighted by the ministry include social distancing, wearing face masks, performing ablution at home as toilets and ablution facilities at mosques remain closed and showing the green status on the Ehteraz app.
Worshippers have also been requested to bring their own Mus’haf if they want to recite the Holy Qur'an inside the mosque or make use of smartphone applications. They should bring their own prayer mats and not share the same with others or leave them in the mosque.
