Saeed Nasser al-Qadi warmed-up for His Highness The Amir Sword Equestrian Festival’s feature event in style, by winning the Big Tour class yesterday at the Qatar Equestrian Federation’s outdoor arena.
The three-day championship carries a total prize money of QR500,000, with today’s feature class winner walking away with a brand new car and the prestigious Amir Sword.
On Friday, Saeed was in fine form as he led his 12-year-old stallion Andreas SPB Z to victory in the 145cm class. The pair committed one fault, but their time of 84.79 seconds was enough to secure them top spot.
In second place was Saeed’s younger brother, Hamad Nasser al-Qadi astride Electra B, the pair coming home in 86.17 secs. Salman Mohamed al-Emadi followed in third place with Cantaro 32 in 88.66 seconds.
The Medium Tour title was won by Hussain Saeed Haidan on 12-year-old gelding Viahipi d’Auzay in sensational fashion. The pair beat Cyrine Cherif and her 11-year-old stallion Brennus Villelongue by one-tenth of a second.
Haidan and Viahipi d’Auzay finished their round in 68.33 seconds, while Cherif and Brennus Villelongue came home 68.43 secs. Kamil Sabitov astride Quintendro finished third in 72.61 secs.
Meanwhile, Abdulaziz Ghanim Al Nuaimi won the Small Tour class with Ferrari PH in 53.92 seconds. Mohamed Jamal al-Derbesti (Numero Uno T, 59.02) and Abdulrahman Eisa Al Bukhari (Irschi, 63.23) finished second and third respectively.
The Amir Sword championship is being held in accordance with the rules and regulations of the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI). Strict Covid-19 prevention protocols is being followed with only 10 percent of fan attendance being allowed at the venue.
Meanwhile, Badr al-Darwish, member of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Equestrian Federation and acting CEO of the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) expressed his happiness for the success of the first two days of competition. Al-Darwish also thanked all the committees involved in this exemplary organisation of the championship and said His Highness The Amir Sword festival is the most prominent event for the QREC and QEF.
Al-Darwish was optimistic about the future of showjumping, dressage and racing in Qatar. “The continuous rise in the performance of riders and horse and the increase in the number of new young riders shows the future is bright,” he said.
