Bilateral trade between Qatar and Spain stood at $750mn from January to November 2020, according to Saleh bin Majid al-Khulaifi, assistant undersecretary for Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
Speaking to officials of the Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA), the Embassy of Spain in Qatar, and other officials during a webinar Saturday, al-Khulaifi said bilateral relations between the two countries had "developed remarkably in recent years, especially at the economic level."

In his speech, al-Khulaifi, also stated that the establishment of the Qatari-Spanish Joint Business Council and the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the QBA and the Confederation of Employers and Industries of Spain (CEOE) is the "culmination of the historical partnership relations" between Qatar and Spain, which "had been ongoing firmly since the 1970s."

bilateral cooperation between the two countries, especially at the commercial and investment levels.
The webinar was held in the presence of QBA chairman HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani and CEOE president Antonio Garamendi.
The meeting also witnessed the participation of Qatari and Spanish government officials represented by ambassador Salem al-Jaber, director of European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Manuel Muniz, Secretary of State for Global Spain; and Xiana Mendes, Secretary of State for Trade in Spain.
The meeting was also attended by Marta Blanco, president of the Federation for International Affairs; and Jose Bonnet, president of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce; Abdullah bin Ibrahim al-Hamar, ambassador of the State of Qatar to Spain; and Spanish ambassador Belen Alfaro Hernandez.
From the Qatari Side, QBA second deputy to the chairman Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Thani al-Thani and board member Saud al-Mana participated in the meeting, as well as QBA members Khaled al-Mannai, Nabil Abu Issa, Ihssan al-Khaimi, Mohamed Althaf, Dallah Holding Media CEO Wassim al-Dayaa, and QBA deputy general manager Sarah Abdullah.
The meeting was part of the QBA's efforts to communicate with similar economic institutions around the world in order to discuss opportunities for economic cooperation and to consolidate ties to identify and benefit from global experiences and discuss proposed solutions to support private sector companies and institutions.
During the webinar, al-Jaber, delivered a welcoming note, congratulating all participants on the signing of the MoU. He also wished for more prosperity for Qatar-Spain relations.
For his part, Muniz said, “Qatari-Spanish relations are originally strong, but the announcement of this council will help in strengthening them further in order to reach the ambitious level.”
Mendes said Spanish companies are competitive in various sectors, such as digitisation, green economy, infrastructure, and sports. She stressed that their experiences can contribute to achieving the economic diversification that Qatar aspires to achieve, especially in the fields of agriculture, livestock, and electronic transformation.
