The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) Sunday announced the commencement of works on the QR514.9mn Roads and Infrastructure Project in South Al Meshaf.
The project, according to an official statement, aims to develop internal streets in the area, improve traffic safety as well as to upgrade infrastructure facilities to respond to residents’ needs and urban growth in the future.

The project area is located east of Al Ghariya Street in South Al Meshaf area and west of the southern part of Doha Express Highway and bordered by Al Wukair Main Road. The upgrading works will be implemented in four geographical zones, successively. The duration of each phase will be one year. Full completion of the project is scheduled for fourth quarter of 2023.
Engineer Ahmed al-Obaidly, head of the Southern Area Section of the Roads Projects Department at Ashghal, said the project will serve 1,360 residential plots in South Al Meshaf area upon its completion through the provision of upgraded infrastructure services including drainage networks. According to him, it will enhance local streets and dedicated cycle and pedestrian paths to improve the traffic flow and provide connectivity to public amenities in the area.
“The project’s scope of works involves developing a road network with a total length of 20km equipped with road safety features and street lighting as well as road signs and marks. The project also features a 20km pedestrian and cycle track as well as the construction of 1,400 car parking slots," al-Obaidly said.
Furthermore, the project scope includes a 26km long foul sewer network, 36km of surface and groundwater drainage network, 2km of Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE) network and 39km long potable water network. In addition, new sewage pipelines will be provided and connected with Qatar’s main sewage network.
Construction works will also include an emergency flood area with a total capacity of 24,000sqm to provide proper protection for the entire area against flooding and excess rainfall.
The Roads and Infrastructure in South Al Meshaf Project is being implemented by Al-Tawfeeq Contracting at a cost of approximately QR514.9mn and part of the New Subdivisions Programme of Ashghal which includes a number of development projects across Qatar.
