Given the good demand for yachts in the local market, manufacturing them in the country would be better than importing them, a Qatari entrepreneur told local Arabic daily Arrayah.
"I have set up my factory on leased land after getting the license," Saleh Ali al-Mohannadi explained. He is awaiting allocation of land to set up a permanent facility to make yachts.
As much as 70% of the raw materials could be locally procured, according to him. This includes iron, leather and fibreglass from local factories, whereas engines, air conditioners and marble are imported.
"The cost of a yacht varies according to the customer’s specifications, in terms of design, speed, and number of engines, area, number of rooms and bathrooms, kitchens, boards, fuel and water tanks, and others," al-Mohannadi added.
