Vodafone Qatar showcased their expertise and investment in building the foundation for smart cities yesterday at the “Doha Smart Cities Summit”.
During the virtual event, Vodafone Qatar Chief Executive Sheikh Hamad Abdulla al-Thani gave the keynote speech, while Vodafone Qatar business services director Mahday Saad al-Hebabi participated in a panel discussion.
The summit, organised by Msheireb Properties and powered by Vodafone Qatar, explored the future of smart cities, particularly in the post-pandemic world.
It convened experts and professionals from different fields to present and discuss ground-breaking technologies that will impact the real estate industry and disrupt the current concept of city living, through a series of talks and panel discussions.
Sheikh Hamad said: “Smart cities have traditionally been a focal point in the race for economic development and prosperity. We are now quickly seeing the critical role advanced digital technologies play in resilience.
“From an economic perspective, not only do these technologies drive innovation and competitiveness, they are critical in the efforts to ensure cities can remain alive and functional.”
The Vodafone Qatar chief executive added: “Our investments in digital technologies, such as 5G, NB-IoT (Narrowband Internet of Things), IoT, Big Data platforms, and Artificial Intelligence that enable the connectivity, efficiency, and sustainability of smart cities, demonstrate our commitment to accelerating Qatar’s journey towards becoming one of the most technologically-advanced, and resilient, countries in the world.
“We will continue to work with Msheireb and all entities in Qatar to achieve the goals aligned with the national vision for the sustainable development of the State of Qatar.”
In a panel discussion called Innovation and Sustainability, experts in digital technology, smart city, and sustainability joined Vodafone Qatar’s al-Hebabi in exploring the potential of digital innovations in transforming industries and promoting sustainability.
“Digital technologies bring new opportunities into focus and have the potential to transform industrial sectors for the better,” al-Hebabi said.
He shared examples of how Vodafone is tailoring connectivity and IoT solutions to help key sectors, such as transportation, agriculture, sports, and education, achieve their goals.
For over a decade, Vodafone Qatar has been moving the country towards being one of the world’s smartest countries by bringing the latest technologies, and has continued to work with pioneers and innovators to reimagine a better future.
