The Ministry of Public Health, in co-operation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), and Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), is organizing two workshops next Friday and Saturday on new growth plans prepared by the World Health Organization students between 5 to 19 years old in public schools in Qatar.

The two workshops target the new nursing cadres in all public schools of various educational levels and the supervisors of the new growth schemes program in the Ministry of Public Health and the Primary Health Care Corporation, to train them on how to implement school student growth monitoring and to use the new growth charts approved by the World Health Organization.

The two workshops are part of the National Action Plan for Nutrition and Physical Activity in the State of Qatar (2017-2022), which aims to reduce the burden of obesity and the associated chronic non-communicable diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and high blood pressure among members of the Qatari community, citizens and residents.

It is noteworthy that the use of growth charts for children in the age group from birth to age 5 years has been applied since 2010 in the clinics of a healthy child in PHCC centers.

The two workshops include training on how to use and apply new growth charts, early detection of malnutrition cases that include overweight or underweight, growth problems for students, provision of a database for students' growth of both genders, and building a system that monitors and monitors their health status, especially overweight and obesity cases, and how to record data and keep it within the students health file in the schools health clinic.
