In partnership with Qatar University's College of Education, Al Faisal without Borders Foundation held a virtual ceremony on Sunday to announce the winners of the Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Award for Education Research for the 2019/2020 academic year.

For the sixth year in a row, the award is bestowed on distinguished scientific research from academic researchers, graduate students, teachers and school principals, with the aim of promoting research and producing knowledge, improvement of educational practices, and development of educational policies.

The ceremony was attended by distinguished members of the Board of Trustees of the Award, headed by HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani, founder and chairman of Al Faisal without Borders Foundation and chairman of the Board of Trustees; Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh al-Nuaimi, undersecretary at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) and vice chairman of the Board of Trustees; Fawzia Abdulaziz al-Khater, assistant undersecretary for Educational Affairs, MoEHE; Dr Hamada al-Sulaiti, secretary general of Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science; Dr Ahmed al-Emadi, dean of College of Education and Professor; Dr Ahmed Majriya, assistant dean for Research and Postgraduate Studies, College of Education; Dr Mohamed Ibrahim al-Nuaimi, president, Community College of Qatar; Dr Khalifa Nasser al-Khalifa, president, College of the North Atlantic - Qatar; Engineer Abdul Latif Ali al-Yafei, general manager, Al Faisal without Borders Foundation, along with a group of researchers from academics, leaders, teachers, and postgraduate students from all over the Arab world.

The winners are: Academics Category - Third place: Dr. Amal al-Saleh - Kuwait University, Second place: Prof Michael Romansky / Dr. Reem Abu Shawish / Norah Marwani - Qatar University; First place: Dr. Yasser Al-Mahdi / Dr. Mahmoud Imam / Dr. Philip Helinger, Sultan Qaboos University, Oman.

Postgraduate category - Third place: Sultan Allaoua - University of Batna - Algeria, Second place: Amal Odeh / Dr Rashid al-Mahrazi / Dr Yousef Abu Shendi - Sultan Qaboos University; First place: Dr Munther al-Saeedi / Dr Nasser al-Rasheed / Dr Ahmed al-Maashani - University of Dhofar, Oman.

School principals and teachers - Third place: Abdel Monsef Abdel Moneim Badr - Ministry of Education, Qatar; Second place: Muhammad Suleiman Zaareer - Ministry of Education, Qatar; First place: Amrawi Ibrahim - Primary School in the wilaya of Biskra - Algeria.

Commenting on thes ceremony, HE Sheikh Faisal the award believing in the effective role that it is carried out by researchers to raise the level of scientific research and raise the name and reputation of the Arab nation high.

In spite of the difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, Al Faisal without Borders Foundation was keen to implement its various programmes remotely to encourage researchers and students from all countries of the Arab world in general and Qatar in particular.

HE Sheikh Faisal also expressed his sincere appreciation to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani for all the outstanding efforts implemented in Qatar to match the world’s advanced countries in terms of education, health and economics.

He expressed his gratitude as well to Qatar University president Dr Hassan al-Derham for his sponsorship of the ceremony.

Dr Ibrahim al-Nuaimi thanked Al Faisal without Borders Foundation and HE Sheikh Faisal for his constant efforts in supporting the educational process and research. Fawzia al-Khater said she looks forward to the award compete with other international awards.

At the end of the ceremony, the launch of the sixth edition of the Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Award for Education Research was announced, and the date of the start of submission will be November 1, 2020.
