Dr Moncef Slaoui, a board member of Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU), has been selected by the US government to lead a crash vaccine development programme that if successful would shatter speed records for vaccine development.
Dr Slaoui, the new chief of what President Trump calls Operation Warp Speed, is a former chairman of vaccines at GlaxoSmithKline. He has recently said early data from a clinical trial showed that a vaccine for the coronavirus could be ready by the end of this year.
Trump has described Dr Slaoui as one of the world's pre-eminent experts on vaccines.
