Thundershowers are again expected in the country in Tuesday, a day after heavy showers were reported from Doha and other parts of the country.

As forecast earlier, the rain also brought down the temperature in the capital and other places.

Tuesday’s forecast says thundery rain is expected in some areas along with sudden strong winds. Thundershowers have also been forecast for offshore areas in addition to windy conditions and high seas at first.

The wind speed may go up to 30 knots offshore and 28 knots inshore during thundery rain, with the sea level rising to 10ft.

The detailed report says the conditions will be partly cloudy and there is a chance of scattered rain, which may become thundery in some places. There could also be slight dust at times.

Offshore, partly cloudy conditions are likely along with scattered rain that may be thundery at first. Conditions will become fine later and there could be some scattered clouds.

A minimum temperature of 22C was recorded on Monday in Ghuwairiyah and Jumayliyah, followed by 23C in Doha, Qatar University area, Hamad International Airport area, Wakra, Mesaieed, Sheehaniya, Al Khor, Dukhan, Ruwais, Turayna, Mukaynis and Shehaimiya, and 24C in Mesaimeer, Umm Bab and Abu Samra.

The maximum, on the other hand, was 24C in Jumayliyah, 25C in Al Khor and Ruwais, 26C in Wakra, 27C in Doha, Qatar University area, Hamad International Airport area, Mesaieed, Mesaimeer, Sheehaniya, Umm Bab, Abu Samra and Karana, 28C in Dukhan, Ghuwairiyah and Mukaynis, and 29C in Shehaimiya.

Tuesday, a minimum temperature of 20C is expected in Abu Samra, Al Khor, Dukhan and Ruwais, and 21C in Doha, Wakra and Mesaieed. The maximum will be 25C in Ruwais, 26C in Doha, Wakra and Mesaieed, and 28C in Dukhan and Abu Samra.

Thunderstorms of variable intensity affected Doha and most other areas of the country on Monday. The rain was accompanied by strong winds and hail at times.

Images and videos circulating on social media showed the intensity of the rain and winds as well as hail in some places.

The Met department said in a tweet that the Mukaynis weather station had recorded the highest rainfall until last evening at 20.7mm.

The authorities concerned issued safety tips to be followed during thunderstorms and rain in view of the prevailing conditions.

The weather office had earlier said in a report that the unsettled weather conditions, with chances of rain and thunderstorms, was expected to continue until the coming weekend.
