The high level of participation at Qatar’s National Sport Day (NSD) proves the annual event is extremely successful in bringing people together and reflects the deep commitment of the country to invest in social development and human capital, Italian ambassador Alessandro Prunas has said.
NSD, held every second Tuesday of February under Amiri Decision No 80, encourages all members of the society to take part in the nationwide celebration aimed at promoting active and healthy lifestyles.
“I am truly impressed by the large number of people engaging with enthusiasm and joy in such a rich programme,” the envoy said in a statement yesterday.
At his first NSD after recently arriving in the country, the envoy said he, together with Italian embassy staff, enjoyed the many sports activities organised in Doha to mark the occasion. “Both for Italy and Qatar, sport is not only essential to ensure good health and well-being among the population, but also to promote in our communities core values such as discipline, integrity and inclusion, which are all instrumental to the positive growth of our societies,” Prunas said. “Our countries, as confirmed in all recent high-level bilateral consultations, pay a great attention to sport and are keen to increase the level of co-operation in this field to the mutual benefit of our peoples,” he added.
