With scintillating light shows, installations, live music, light parade and water painting, the second edition of the International Light and Digital Media Festival (LightMe Lusail) enthralled visitors at Lusail Marina during its opening on Wednesday.

The event showcases an array of innovative technologies and devices in the realm of light art and digital media on the shore and above the water. LightMe Lusail runs until Saturday at Eastern and South Promenade at Lusail Marina. The timing is 5.30pm to 11.30pm.

"Respect is this year's motto and the second edition attempts to utilise light art and digital media to communicate all elements surrounding the motto," Claudia Costa, festival director, told Gulf Times.

The festival showcases generational, cultural, social and ideological faces of respect while it discusses the challenges of respect along with the devastating consequences in the absence of respect. Claudia said this edition is a bigger and better light art festival with extraordinary light art installations that will astound the visitors.Ten artists from across the globe are participating.

Divided into 12 installations, the festival features video projector, light object, interactive light, interactive show, water show, light parade, an interactive light and painting projection. A 2km stretch of lamps has been arranged between boats and vehicles.

The visitors can enjoy the festival by taking a ride on the traditional dhows and see the amazing art installations from the seaside. Tickets could be purchased from points at Eastern and South Promenade. Electric cars have been arranged in order to help visitors enjoy the festival inland.

The festival, according to Claudia, will bring a boost to Qatar's tourism sector and establish Qatar’s position as a tourism and cultural hub.

The popular event is brought by a number of renowned companies, including Qatari Diar, Vibrant, Nakheel Landscapes and hosted by Lusail.

The sponsors and partners include Qatar Airways, Katara Hospitality, The Ritz-Carlton and Epson/Edge.

The first edition of the festival attracted more than 150,000 visitors from 100 different nationalities, establishing it's reputation as a major event.
