The Doha Metro witnessed a huge rush of passengers on Monday, when Qatar won its last group match against the UAE to qualify for the semi-finals of the 24th Arabian Gulf Cup.

"Monday was a momentous day for Qatar. 95,000 journeys were made using the Doha Metro, this really is changing the way we move. Thank you," Qatar Rail said in a post on its Doha Metro & Lusail Tram Twitter page on Tuesday.

Many spectators used the Metro on Monday to travel to and from Khalifa International Stadium, where the Qatar-UAE match took place.

Qatar Rail also tweeted photographs showing the huge rush on Tuesday, with passengers - both citizens and expatriates - turning in large numbers to avail of the Metro services. The Sport City station is closest to the stadium.
