Best-in-class technologies and innovation took centre stage at Vodafone Qatar’s pavilion at the recently held Qatar IT Conference and Exhibition (Qitcom 2019), giving thousands of visitors a glimpse of what the telecommunications company has in store for the local and regional markets.
“I am very proud of our team that has worked at Qitcom, we have a booth of around 1,000sq m, it is a very ambitious project to put in place what we needed to showcase everything that we are doing, it is a smart city,” Vodafone Qatar chief operating officer Diego Camberos told Gulf Times on the sidelines of the event.
He noted that Vodafone Qatar is completely aligned with the concept of ‘Safe, Smart Cities’ that Qitcom wants to highlight.
The company featured a range of the “most advanced smart technology solutions” at Qatar’s biggest digital event, which concluded on November 1 at the Qatar National Convention Centre.
At Qitcom, Vodafone Qatar demonstrated technologies powered by ultra-fast 5G wireless Internet connectivity, including virtual reality, Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, big data analytics, smart technologies for homes and industries, and how they converge to enable innovative solutions for a sustainable digitised environment.
Visitors had the opportunity to try live and interactive demonstrations of 5G-enabled smart technologies in five zones: Smart Homes; Connected Retail Stores; Smart Industry; Smart City and Gaming.
A dedicated space for international tech startups served as platform for them to display the various potential of 5G.
The pavilion also featured a 5G autonomous car, featuring technologies such as Artificial Assistants for drivers and passengers; Smart City Traffic Analytics and NB-IoT (Narrowband IoT) based solutions such as Smart Waste Management, Smart Water Metering, and Smart Parking, and Smart Lighting solutions running on Vodafone’s recently launched NB-IoT network.
Camberos lauded the organisers of Qitcom 2019, describing the event as “a world-class deployment.”
“We are very happy to be part of a world class conference and exhibition,” he stressed.
The participation of Vodafone Qatar in Qitcom also underlined its role as a key player in achieving Qatar National Vision 2030 and in supporting the nation in its vision to become one of the most digitally connected countries in the world.
The company commenced commercial operations in 2009 and had around 1.8mn customers as of June 30. Its state-of-the-art network infrastructure is expanding to cover key locations in the country with fibre connectivity and 5G, along with an extensive digital ecosystem, which will contribute to Qatar’s continued growth and prosperity.
