New avenues for co-operation were explored at a dinner reception and networking event hosted by the Gulf Times, and sponsored by Qatar Media Corporation, for visiting dignitaries from China at the Idam restaurant in the Museum of Islamic Art.

The reception was held on Saturday in honour of Minister HE Yin Yicui, Chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress and other members of the delegation.

Wang Jianjun, Chairwoman, Shanghai Media Group (SMG) was also present.

Among the guests were diplomats, senior government officials, leading Qatari businessmen, top CEOs and prominent citizens.

Welcoming the guests, Faisal Abdulhameed al-Mudahka, Editor-in-Chief of Gulf Times said it was an honour for him to welcome HE Yin Yicui and the accompanying delegation to Qatar.“We in Qatar truly appreciate the visit of HE Yin Yicui coming at a critical time like this when our country has been subjected to an illegal and unjust blockade.

"This visit is a true manifestation of the age-old and trusted relations between Qatar and China."

He said Qatar-China relationship has been further cemented and elevated to the strategic level by high-level bilateral visits, including the visit by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to Beijing.

SMG is the largest provincial media and cultural conglomerate with the most complete portfolio of media and related businesses in China. Discussions were held on co-operation in the media sector between SMG and Qatar media organisations.
