Indian actor siblings Indrajith and Prithviraj said yesterday they will soon open a multi-cuisine dine court, Spice Boat, in Doha’s West Bay.
The brothers are children of film actor late Sukumaran and Mallika Sukumaran, a leading MalayaIam actress .
The new restaurant will open on January 11, 2013.
The restaurant is located on the ground level of the imposing Al Maha Twin Tower. It could accommodate 70 guests indoor and another 120 in open air dining.
Spice Boat will also provide a separate area to hold theme parties and pool side gatherings.
On the occasion, Mallika Sukumaran said she had been closely associating with Qatar for more than a decade now and has been active in the country’s beauty salon industry.
“Qatar has been as familiar to me as my home turf of Kerala, and we, as a family, enjoy every minute of our stay in this country which is in fact a second home to me for several years now,” Mallika said, adding: “I will now focus more on those enterprises that I am promoting locally in Doha and its suburbs.”
Mallika, who is a Qatar residence permit holder, is the CEO and executive chairperson of the restaurant company.
Vowing to run the restaurant as an “affordable” destination, she said besides Indian and Arab delicacies the place would also serve Mediterranean, Mexican and Chinese dishes.
The entrepreneur said she had a tough time in getting a property that would suit her requirements. “Even though we struggled a lot, the opening of Space Boat is now a dream come true for us,” she added.
The brothers said they have roped in some of the finest professionals available in the hospitality industry from India and other parts of South Asia, who they said could make Epicureans at their restaurant “happy and comfortable”.
The company’s vice chairman and COO Sreekanth Manikoth also spoke. The group’s patron Sheikh Ahmad Ali Faleh Nasser al-Thani was present at the press conference.
