Doha-based renowned Telugu personality Venkappa Bhagavatula has been honoured with the NRI Telugu Award on the occasion of Telugu Language Day 2021.
To mark the occasion, two-day virtual celebrations were organised recently by two Telugu organisations - South African Telugu Community (South Africa) and Veedhi Arugu (Norway) - in association with 75 Telugu organisations worldwide. All winners of the award were honoured during the event.
The organisers said they received nominations from around the globe, of which they selected 12 from different countries.
These individuals have been actively involved in promoting and advocating Telugu language, literature and culture.
Bhagavatula was selected for his outstanding services and contribution to Telugu language, art and culture as a resident of Doha. He has been actively involved in the cultural and literary events of the Telugu community in Qatar for the past 16 years.
He currently holds the position of general secretary, Andhra Kala Vedika.
Expressing happiness at the award, Bhagavatula said: “I am blessed to be honoured with this prestigious award, especially to receive it on the 158th birth anniversary of Sri Gidugu Venkata Ramamurthy, in whose remembrance Telugu Language Day is celebrated worldwide among the Telugu community."
