Qatar issued a total of 500 building permits in April 2021 with as much as 69% of it going to Al Rayyan, Doha and Al Wakra municipalities, according to the official data.
In its latest data, the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) reported that of the total number of new building permits issued, Al Rayyan constituted 32% or 162 permits, Doha (21% or 105 permits), Al Wakra (16% or 79 permits), Al Daayen (15% or 73 permits), Umm Slal (6% or 30 permits), Al Khor (5% or 27 permits), Al Shahaniya (3% or 14 permits) and Al Shamal (2% or 10 permits).
On a monthly basis, at the national level, the number of building permits issued fell 58% with Umm Slal registering a 66% fall, Al Rayyan (64%), Al Shahaniya (63%), Al Daayen (59%), Al Wakra (54%), Doha (51%) and Al Shamal (38%) and Al Khor (34%) in April 2021.
The overall decline across the municipalities is rather reflective of the additional Covid-19 related restrictions.
The building permits data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy.
The PSA data indicates that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constituted 45% (227 permits) of the total building permits issued in April 2021, followed by additions 51% (254 permits) and fencing 4% (19 permits).
Of the new residential buildings permits, villas topped the list, accounting for 73% (135 permits) of the total, dwellings of housing loans 18% (33 permits) and apartments 7% (13 permits).
Among non-residential sector, commercial structures accounted for 42% or 18 permits, the industrial buildings as workshops and factories 28% (12 permits) and other non-specified buildings 12% (five permits).

The PSA figures suggest that of the total number of new building completion certificates issued in April this year, Al Rayyan constituted 28% or 93 certificates, Al Wakra (22% or 72), Doha (18% or 61), Al Daayen (16% or 54), Umm Slal (7% or 23), Al Khor (5% or 16), Al Shahaniya (2% or eight) and Al Shamal (2% or seven).
The overall building completion certificates issued saw a 15% increase month-on-month in April 2021 with Al Shamal registering 46% contraction, Umm Slal (36%), Al Wakra (28%), Al Rayyan (12%) and Al Daayen (11%); while Al Shahaniya, Al Khor and Doha witnessed 33%, 14% and 5% growth respectively in the review period.
Of the 191 residential buildings completion certificates issued, as many as 132 or 69% were for villas, 43 or 23% for dwellings of housing loans and 13 or 7% for the apartments.
In terms of geography, Al Rayyan issued 93 certificates or 28% of the total, Al Wakra (72 or 22%), Doha (61 or 18%), Al Daayen (54 or 16%), Umm Slal (23 or 7%), Al Khor (16 or 5%), Al Shahaniya (eight or 2%) and Al Shamal (seven or 2%).
Of the 132 villas completion certificates issued this April, as many as 35 each were in Al Rayyan and Al Daayen, 28 in Al Wakra, 12 in Umm Slal, nine in Doha, six in Al Shamal, five in Al Khor and two in Al Shahaniya.
Of the 43 dwellings of housing loans completion certificates issued, Al Rayyan saw 23, Al Wakra (13), Umm Slal (three), and Al Daayen and Al Shahaniya (two each).
