Lekhwiya celebrates National Sport Day

Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) marked National Sport Day with the participation of a large number of its members, led by HE Lekhwiya Commander Major General Abdulaziz bin Faisal bin Mohammed al-Thani and a line-up of departments, units leaders and officers. This was held in implementation of Amiri Decision No 80 of 2011, which aims to broaden the community participation in sport and physical activity, increase effective participation rates; spread the sports culture to increase community awareness; and adopt best practices and means to promote sports and physical activity among its members.
Lekhwiya's pitches, stadiums and gyms have been venues to a number of sports competitions including football; tug-of-war; volleyball on grass; cricket; arm wrestling; basketball; deadlift; and various other games. These competitions emphasised the readiness of the Internal Security Force's personnel to carry out tasks and duties, where sport is a top of the priorities and interests of the force.
Head of the Sports Department in Lekhwiya Major Bilal Walid al-Hitmi said that Lekhwiya's participation in the ninth edition of the National Sport Day comes as a practical translation of Amiri Decision No. 80 of 2011. He indicated that Lekhwiya has organised many sports competitions that go along with its nature, pointing that all departments and units have taken part in the various events. He further stressed the support of HE Lekhwiya Commander Major General Abdulaziz bin Faisal bin Mohammed al-Thani and his attention to the sports side.
Although exercising is a daily routine for the Lekhwiya personnel, the National Sport Day casts a good shadow over the events, which were characterised by strength and competitiveness, Major al-Hitmi said, praising the outstanding performance of all the staff, and stressing that high fitness is one of the distinguishing features of all Lekhwiya members.
Major al-Hitmi went on saying that the Lekhwiya is working to develop physical fitness among its employees due to its connection to health and personality, adding that the Sports Department is seeking to establish foundations, programmes and standards for this fitness, to continuously maintain raising the efficiency of its members in this field.
