A conference of the International Search and Rescue Satellite Aided Tracking Organization (Cospas-Sarsat Program) started on Tuesday in Doha in the presence of HE Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Lieutenant General (Pilot) Ghanem bin Shaheen al-Ghanem.
The meeting, organized by the Doha Joint Rescue Coordination Center, is witnessing the participation of 46 member states as well as representatives of relevant international organizations.
Doha Joint Rescue Coordination Center Commander Brigadier-General Mohamed Hamad al-Shahwani thanked the organization for agreeing to hold this meeting in the State of Qatar, for the first time in the Gulf region and the Middle East.
Al-Shahwani said the meeting comes in the context of the interest in providing a safe environment for aviation and maritime navigation and upgrading the level of safety in accordance with the recommended international standards.
The commander pointed out that the high level of safety encouraged the use of aviation and maritime transport, which are essential factors for growth and the promotion of the national economy.
He explained that it also helps in promoting Qatar as a safe and attractive commercial and tourism destination in the Gulf region and stresses the readiness of the State of Qatar to host the 2022 Fifa World Cup.
Later, the Chief of Staff and participants toured the exhibition accompanying the activities of the meeting, where they were briefed on the exhibitors and listened to an explanation from their representatives about the companies' technological solutions related to satellite search and rescue activities.
