There is a chance of scattered light rain in the country from Saturday until Tuesday, May 21, the Qatar Met department has said.

In a report on Thursday, the weather office such a possibility of rain is “usually rare during this time of the year, according to the country’s climate records”.

The maximum temperature during this period is expected to range between 33C and 40C during the daytime across Qatar and the minimum between 25C and 30C.

The report states that the cloud cover is likely to increase in the above-mentioned period and there is a chance of scattered rain, which will be mostly light in intensity. The prevailing winds will be northeasterly to southeasterly, ranging in speed from 5-15 knots and reaching a high of 25 knots in some inshore areas.

This, in turn, will result in rising dust and a drop in visibility to 3km or less at times.

Also, the wave height is expected to rise to 7ft at times during thundery rain, the report adds.

The Met department has urged people to be cautious, check weather forecasts before going to sea and follow latest updates through its official social media accounts.

Meanwhile, today’s forecast says hot daytime conditions are expected along with slight dust and scattered clouds.

The maximum temperature on Friday will be 39C in Dukhan, 38C in Doha and Abu Samra, and 36C in Wakrah and Mesaieed. The minimum, on the other hand, will be 23C in Al Khor, Dukhan and Abu Samra, and 29C in Doha.

Thursday, the maximum was 43C in Turayna, Batna and Karana, followed by 42C in Abu Samra, Sheehaniya and Jaumayliyah, 41C in Ghuwairiyah, 40C in Abu Hamour, Dukhan and Mesaieed, and 38C in Doha. The minimum was 22C in Abu Samra and 27C in Doha.
