Jaidah Automotive, the authorised distributor of Chevrolet vehicles in Qatar, held an array of events at its showroom on Airport Road yesterday to celebrate Qatar National Day.
The festivities were attended by dignitaries, several of the company’s long-time customers, well-wishers and other residents.
Qatari youths, sporting traditional costumes and wielding swords, performed the traditional dance – Ardha – to the accompaniment of music and beating of drums.
Among the dignitaries present were Jaidah Group chairman Jassim Jaidah and executive director Mohamed Jaidah.
The organisers also put up traditional bazaars and eateries alongside the venue of the celebrations. Streams of visitors were served Qatari, Arabic and other delicacies.
Chat shows and other items focusing on the people’s love and respect for Qatar and its successful efforts to overcome the blockade were also demonstrated.
Speaking to Gulf Times at a traditional tent put up for the ceremony, Mohamed Jaidah said one of the main reasons for holding the celebrations was to highlight the necessity of continuing to build and develop the country on what it had already achieved.
In the last six months, Qatar and its people have shown that they can withstand any adversity arising from unexpected developments and now it is time to demonstrate that the country and its residents have the will and determination to continue nation-building in a big way, Jaidah stressed.
Through the celebrations, the company wants to remind both old-timers, who have been living in Qatar for years, and newcomers of how this country has reached its current position, as well as the opportunities arising in Qatar on account of the development seen in different areas, he noted.
Further, Jaidah said the company has been in the distribution of Chevrolet vehicles for more than 53 years and it is one of the first agencies of the renowned global brand in the entire Gulf region.
