A Doha Metro station will be opened this month for public viewing, HE the Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Seif Ahmed al-Sulaiti has said.
The public can also view a Metro train as part of this initiative, the official Qatar News Agency (QNA) reports.
Speaking yesterday on the sidelines of a signing ceremony for a memorandum of understanding between Qatar Foundation for Social Work and the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC), as well as the inauguration of the call centre and hotline of the Protection and Social Rehabilitation Centre (Aman), HE the Minister informed that the second batch of Metro trains has arrived in Doha while the third is on its way.
He also informed that a centre would be opened to introduce children to public transport and its importance within the community.
Stressing that Qatar has overcome the impacts of the ongoing siege, HE al-Sulaiti said the MoTC plans to build an integrated transport system involving Qatar and neighbouring countries with which there are bilateral agreements.
The transport and communications sector has seen significant developments, whether in air, land or sea transportation, and what the MoTC has achieved in co-operation with other ministries to open maritime and air routes represents a positive step and quick response to the requirements of the times, QNA adds.
Major ports in Oman, India, China, Pakistan and other destinations have been targeted, HE the Minister noted, adding that latest technologies have been adopted and steps taken to connect Hamad Port with 57 ports in the region and beyond.
The $7.4bn Hamad Port, which was officially inaugurated last month, is expected to take more than 35% of the region’s trade in the next two years, HE the Minister had earlier said, adding that the port had taken 27% of the region’s trade since its initial operations in December 2015.
Meanwhile, Qatar Railways Company received the first batch of Doha Metro trains in August, two months ahead of schedule.
