M Pallonji, the sponsor team, defeated Wellon CC by 8 wickets in the inaugural match of the M Pallonji Day/Night Tournament 2019.
The 15 overs-a-side tournament was inaugurated by M Pallonji general manager Chidananda Naik at West Bay Cricket Complex in presence of Qatar Veterans Cricket officials, players and match officials.
After put in to bat first, in the hot weather conditions, Wellon lost their first wicket in the first over. M Pallonji bowlers had Wellon reeling at 42 for 5 in the first six overs, taking wickets at regular intervals. Wellon batsmen eventually managed to put 107 runs on board in the allotted 15 overs for the loss of 9 wickets. Sanjaya was the top scorer for the team with 33 runs, a knock that included three sixes and a boundary. Samantha and Asmadaga were the other batsmen who got into double figures.
For M Pallonji, Alban took 3 wickets for 9 runs in his allotted 2 overs, Rauf scalped 2 wickets, while Chida and Sandesh took a wicket each.
M Pallonji too had a shaky start to their chase, losing opener Sandesh cheaply in the second over. However, the other opener, Rajesh, blazed away, scoring 29 runs in 7 balls with 3 sixes and 2 fours. Rauf added scored 26 runs in 7 balls with four sixes to finish the match in the ninth over.
Sanjaya, Fernando and Sanjaya took a wicket each for Wellon.
For his all-round performance, Rauf of M Pallonji was adjudged Man of the Match.  
In other matches, Serandib B defeated Mitramandal by 1 wicket after reaching the 118-run target with a ball to spare, while Mumbai XII defeated Al Fardan by 9 wickets overhauling the 109-run target in the 10th over.
CCRC put 182 runs on the board with Mazhar (33), Majeed (28) and Abbas (27) excelling with the bat. In reply, McDonalds were wrapped up for 115 run, with Abbas and Magsi scalping two wickets each, setting up a 67-run victory.
Nilesh (58) and Adnan (43) were impressive for ACC, who set a 186-run target for Alliance. However, losing wickets at regular intervals, Alliance only managed 127 runs on the board for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 15 overs.
Al Zaman Exchange too picked up a big win, beating MIC by 61 runs after scoring 201 runs on the board, courtesy a smashing 17-ball 54 run knock by Firdosh.
Hanan managed to win a thriller against Al Jazeera Media Network by 1 run, restricting the latter at 121 runs for 11 wickets in 15 overs.
QVC defeated Ceylon Warriors by seven wickets after scoring 160 runs for four wickets in reply to latter’s 154.
