Qatar Media Corporation CEO HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad al-Thani has questioned the policy of contradiction and double-standards played out by Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir.
In a tweet on his official Twitter account, Sheikh Abdulrahman wrote: “Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister repeats the claim that the dispute with Qatar, along with the Gulf Crisis is “very very very small” and that it would not be on the table at the Arab Summit because it is a Gulf-related issue. Yet since the beginning of the Gulf crisis, the Saudi foreign minister kept travelling from one country to another to attack Qatar.
He added : “It looks like the Saudi Foreign Minister had forgotten what he kept saying (that the dispute with Qatar is ‘very very very small’) and went back talking about it at the Dhahran conference”.
In the joint press conference after the closing of the Arab League’s 29th summit, al-Jubeir said that the Gulf crisis was not on the agenda of the Arab League summit because it was a very small issue and it will be resolved within the GCC.
The phrase “very very very small” went viral after being used for the first time in October 2017 by Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman to describe the dispute with Qatar. Since then, the phrase kept circulating in the media channels, newspapers and social media accounts of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, and Egypt, the countries that imposed a sea, land and air blockade on Qatar in June 2017.
However, the Gulf Crisis saw senior officials of the blockading countries visiting many countries to try to justify their illegal siege on Qatar. Al-Jubeir alone travelled to around 30 countries in a few months to vainly convince the world of his country-led siege of Qatar.
