The formal inauguration of the exhibition of ships visiting Doha as part of the Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (Dimdex 2018) took place yesterday. Commander of the Qatar Emiri Naval Force Major General Abdullah bin Hassan al-Sulaiti inaugurated the expo on behalf of Chief of Staff of Qatar Armed Forces Major General (Pilot) Ghanem bin Shaheen al-Ghanem. Later Major General Shaheen al-Ghanem and members of official delegations visited the Hamad Port where a number of warships are berthed. Members of the Qatar Armed Forces and Qatar Emiri Navy officers were also present. The arrival of warships is one of the main elements of Dimdex and this year there are 11 in total from Bangladesh, India, Italy, Oman, Pakistan, the UK and the US. Dimdex 2018, where navies from around the world get to display their latest vessels and showcase their capabilities in protecting trading routes, borders and shorelines, concludes today.
