Keiron Pollard’s 47-ball 73 went in vain as Islamabad United defeated Multan Sultans by 33 runs to secure their playoff spot in the Pakistan Super League yesterday.
Replying to a formidable Islamabad score of 185/4, made with the help of Luke Ronchi’s 58, Alex Hales’ 46 and Hussain’s Talat’s 33, Multan Sultans made the worst possible start imaginable when they lost four wickets for 20 runs in 5.1 overs.
But West Indian Pollard gave them some hope, hitting six sixes and five fours in a calculated assault on the Islamabad bowlers. He was the eighth batsman out with 142 runs on the board and 14 balls remaining in the innings.
However, Islamabad kept the Multan tailenders quiet to help their team to a comfortable win.
Samit Patel, Amad Butt, Shadab Khan and Faheem Ashraf claimed two wickets apiece for Islamabad as Multan were bundled out for 152 in 19.1 overs.
Ronchi, whose 58 came off 36 balls, was declared man of the match.
