Qatar Airways’ Al Darb Qatarisation programme in collaboration with its strategic partner, Rolls-Royce, held a custom-designed and developed training session for its national employees, intended to provide the future leaders of Qatar’s national carrier with an unparalleled educational experience.
The airline earmarked 24 of its national employees from across different departments to participate in the Business Management and Commercial Awareness Programme, which took place in Derby, England.
The Business Management and Commercial Awareness Programme is designed to expose Al Darb participants to Rolls-Royce’s leadership and strategy expertise, providing them with new skills and perspectives that they can put into place in their roles within Qatar Airways.
Participants come from several of the airline’s departments, including aircraft maintenance engineers, graduate developees, and employees from the commercial, human resources, finance and contracts divisions. Ten Rolls-Royce employees participated in the programme, to facilitate cross-company experience and knowledge sharing.
Nabeela Fakhri, senior vice president, human resources, at Qatar Airways, said: “In Rolls-Royce, we have one of the world’s most trusted partners – a brand that has established itself as a leader and that is strongly aligned with Qatar Airways’ visions for its future. We are thrilled to be able to offer the future leaders of our company the opportunity to train with such a prestigious brand, where they will have the chance to learn from and understand the ways in which successful brands manage every aspect of their business. Providing such opportunities to the nationals enrolled in our highly successful Al Darb Qatarisation programme enables us to ensure that the national carrier will be in superb hands with our future leadership generations.”
John P Kelly, vice president, customers – Middle East, Rolls Royce, said: “It was an honour and privilege to be able to host the 2017 Qatar Airways Business Management and Commercial Awareness course in UK. It was a valuable experience to learn with, and from, one of our most valued partners. This is further evidence of our strong, long lasting relationship and the insights and experiences will stand the delegates in great stead for their own careers and our future growth together.”
Based on Qatar Airways’ Talent Development Strategy, the Business Management and Commercial Awareness Programme works on a 70:20:10 model, which breaks down into 70% experiential learning, 20% social learning and exposure to global organisations such as Rolls-Royce, and 10% formal learning.
Participants will learn from Rolls-Royce specialists in a variety of subjects that are crucial to executives in the aviation industry, including corporate strategy, financial management, relationship marketing, and customer service management.
The Business Management and Commercial Awareness Programme is organised annually, with over 50 nationals having participated in the training since 2015. Participants are chosen based on their high performance and the length of their service within the company.
Qatar Airways’ Al Darb Qatarisation programme – with Al Darb meaning ‘The Pathway’ – is an initiative that aims to develop young nationals to become the future leaders of the national carrier.
Al Darb highlights the numerous career paths individuals can take within Qatar Airways, and offers initiatives such as summer internship programmes, graduate developee programmes and more.
Nationals enrolled in Al Darb participate in real-life projects to add to their work experience, preparing them for a successful career within Qatar Airways.
