In cooperation with civil society organisations, the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has conducted health education activities and workshops to equip children with the right skills to save and improve the lives of vulnerable people.
QRCS said part of the activities included lectures that promote the importance of health and safety measures, swimming skills, and life-saving first aid.
A team from QRCS also delivered a lecture on protection against drowning for children spearheaded by staff of Qatar Foundation for Protection and Social Rehabilitation.
The session, attended by 45 children and their parents, tackled the types and causes of drowning, how to rescue a drowning person safely, the tools used in surface water rescue, first-aid intervention to be provided until the arrival of medical assistance, and the right way of calling ambulance services.
Some of the participants practiced the process of rescuing a drowning person, using training manikins. Vital ‘protective tips’ were also introduced, including the importance of knowing how to swim, avoiding swimming in deep water and unstable weather, warming up, keeping an eye on children, being aware while in or around the swimming pool, availability of trained lifeguards, securing safety tools at the swimming pool, calling the emergency number (999) in case of risk.
Another first-aid workshop was held for the scout group of the Egyptian Language School in Abu Hamour, teaching 25 students, supervisors and administrative staff about the QRCS’s history and a first-aid procedure for accidents at school, on the bus, or during scouting activities.
The trainees also practiced the right techniques of dealing with fainting, bleeding, nosebleed, wounds, burns, sprains, fractures, and suffocation. The QRCS also handed first-aid booklets to the attendees.
